Why Warranties Matter
A pool plaster warranty is your protection against defects in materials and workmanship. It's also a signal of the contractor's confidence in their work. Companies that cut corners or use inferior materials rarely offer substantial warranties because they know problems are likely to arise.
Golden Pools' Warranty Tiers
At Golden Pools, our warranty coverage is tied to the finish tier you select:
- Standard Plaster (Bronze): 2-year warranty
- Quartz (Silver): 3-year warranty
- Mini Pebble (Gold): 5-year warranty
- Micro Pebble (Gold): 5-year warranty
- Polished Marble (Diamond): 7-year warranty
The longer warranties on premium finishes reflect both the superior durability of the materials and the extended performance you can expect.
What's Typically Covered
- Delamination — plaster separating from the pool shell
- Structural cracking that originates from the plaster application
- Premature material failure under normal use
- Significant aggregate loss in pebble finishes
What's Typically Not Covered
- Damage from improper water chemistry (most common exclusion)
- Staining from external sources (metals, minerals, organic matter)
- Calcium scaling from hard water
- Cracking caused by ground movement, settling, or structural issues
- Normal wear and aging
- Damage from improper chemical treatments
The Water Chemistry Factor
Water chemistry is the most important factor in plaster longevity, and poor chemistry is the most common reason warranty claims are denied. Maintaining proper pH (7.2-7.6), alkalinity (80-120 ppm), and calcium hardness (200-400 ppm) is essential for protecting your investment.
At Golden Pools, we provide detailed water chemistry guidelines with every plaster job and recommend regular professional water testing, especially during the first 30 days after plastering.
Red Flags in Warranty Offerings
Be cautious of contractors who:
- Offer no warranty at all
- Use vague language about what's covered
- Won't put the warranty in writing
- Offer the same warranty regardless of finish quality
- Have a history of denying legitimate claims
Making the Right Choice
When comparing bids from different pool plastering companies, always compare warranty terms alongside pricing. A slightly higher price with a significantly longer warranty often represents the better value. At Golden Pools, our 600+ pools plastered annually means we have the experience and resources to stand behind our warranties — giving you peace of mind for years to come.
